Tenders invite suppliers to bid for work with the public sector, and while they can be very lucrative – these contracts can be challenging to find. That is why for over 30 years, Tender Direct has be helping businesses to find and win these opportunities.

I am the Head of Development for Tenders Direct, and in this article, I will be looking at how technology helps us deliver the UK’s most accurate tender alert service.

Data Pipeline and Big Data Tools

One of the biggest challenges we face as a company is dealing with big data. As we collect and process more tender notice information every year, we need to find ways to handle it efficiently and effectively.

To solve this problem, we implemented a data pipeline that uses a range of big data analytical tools such as Hadoop, Spark, and artificial intelligence techniques such as large language models (LLMs).

Our data pipeline helps us to:

  • Reduce the time needed for our reviewers to process tender notices.
  • Increase the accuracy and quality of our analysis with accurate prompts.
  • Provide more insights and recommendations to our clients.
  • Overcome data-storage limitations and improve system efficiency.
  • Enhance our unique competitive advantage in the market.

Problem Solving and Continuous Learning

Another key factor that drives our innovation is our problem-solving mindset. We believe that innovation comes from constantly learning and seeking new ways of doing things. We encourage our team members to adopt a growth mindset, which means embracing challenges, taking risks, and seeing failures as opportunities for growth and improvement.

We also foster a culture of collaboration and feedback among our team members, and wider Proactis colleagues, regularly sharing ideas, experiences, and best practices. We are always open to new suggestions and innovations that can add value to our service.

One of the most important aspects of ensuring that new technologies are seamlessly integrated into our existing systems is training. Our technical colleagues are tasked with learning development objectives based on the latest technologies that can be used to process tender notices. These include Natural language processing (NLP) and the latest data-storage technologies such as NoSQL.

Artificial Intelligence and the Future

One of the most exciting predictions for the future of our service is that it will evolve with the addition of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. AI is not only a powerful tool for analysing data, but also a creative force that can generate new ideas and solutions – creating a lot of possibilities for our teams and products.

We do have a business to run, so I will not give too much away just now, but we are exploring some new solutions that will change the way suppliers can access and bid for tenders.

Ultimately, we aim to provide the best tendering solutions in the market. Our understanding of the tender notice process and our customers’ problems are our main assets to ensure new technology means added value.
