The work needs to deliver upon the following: Work Package A Produce a short, non-academic report providing an overview of what current research evidence says about suicide in Northern Ireland. In particular, base this report on the recent work of Professor Siobhan O’ Neill and Professor Rory O’Connor (Suicide in Northern Ireland: epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention). Ensure the report includes recent suicide statistics for Northern Ireland, and a qualitative story approach to capture the voices of people in Northern Ireland impacted by suicide, particularly members of key minority groups, and/or from areas of social and economic disadvantage. Work Package B Develop a Samaritans Northern Ireland 3-year strategy. Develop this strategy within the context of the current mental health and suicide prevention market in NI, Protect Life 2, and the report from Work Package A. Identify key elements and gaps in suicide prevention in Northern Ireland that Samaritans is best placed to respond to. Outline recommendations and actions to address these, identifying priority at risk groups and geographical locations. This will include an exploration of future partnership, campaigns and outreach work for Samaritans in Northern Ireland. A key outcome of Work Package B is to ensure Samaritans is best placed to target our resources and activities to reduce the suicide rate in Northern Ireland over the next three years.
