Notice Abstract

Support the Recruitment of Non-Executive Directors of the GBSLEP The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership Limited’s (GBSLEP) are inviting tenders to Support the Recruitment of Non-Executive Directors The GBSLEP is seeking to appoint a number of new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to help it to achieve its ambition of enabling Greater Birmingham to be regarded as a truly global city region by 2030 – one that leads the world in innovation and creativity, takes full advantage of its global connections and promotes stronger conditions for growth. This opportunity comes at a time when the Greater Birmingham economy has been experiencing a renaissance, with the LEP area being the fastest growing Core City LEP since 2010, growing by 20% compared to the average of 11%. Private sector job creation, the number of business start-ups and the quality of life are also on the rise. GBSLEP has played its part in supporting this economic growth. Established in 2010, it is a partnership of business, public sector and further and higher education leaders, spanning nine local authority boundaries: Birmingham, Solihull, East Staffordshire, Cannock Chase, Lichfield, Tamworth, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Wyre Forest. As a business-led partnership, working closely alongside public sector and educational partners, it has distinct advantages. It is able to take a private sector view of the supply side constraints on growth and provide a forum for demand and supply sides to come together to agree action, with success hinging on delivering interventions that bring about meaningful change, leading to sustainable economic growth. Role Description This successful individual(s) will join the other NEDs on the GBSLEP Board from across the private, public and educational sectors. NEDs will be asked to lead on specific areas of the LEP’s strategy, subject to their experience and skill set. This could mean leading on a particular growth sector, such as advanced manufacturing or life sciences; or a theme from the SEP, such as skills or business support. It could also involve providing specific support to enable the GBSLEP to fulfil all its requirements as an active company. NEDs will be expected to contribute to the three primary roles of the GBSLEP: • Agitator – acting as a voice for the GBSLEP area and using its influence to secure greater funding and powers from Government and greater investment from the private sector, both at home and overseas; • Enabler – bringing together existing partners and organisations within the area, providing support and guidance and resources to meet shared priorities; and • Commissioner - using resources directly aligned to the LEP, to invest in priorities that support the GBSLEP’s mission.
