Description of the goods or services required
TWI is one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organisations, with expertise in solving problems in all aspects of manufacturing, fabrication and whole-life integrity management technologies.
Established in Cambridge, UK in 1946 and with facilities across the globe, the company has a first class reputation for service through its teams of internationally respected consultants, scientists, engineers and support staff, whose knowledge and expertise is available to its Members.
This purchase will be made as part of a collaborative research project, Open Architecture Additive Manufacturing (OAAM), which is supported by Innovate UK. The equipment must provide full reliable service operating within a predominantly R&D environment across 1 shift (7h 30m per day) for approximately 220 days/year.
Within the TWI Electron Beam Section, there is a requirement to carry out de-magnetisation (de-gaussing) of thick section steel components in preparation for welding. These components can vary from rectangular blocks of approximate dimensions of min. 100 x 100 x 200mm through to large rings up to 2000mm diameter and 200mm thick section.
There is the potential to use a pre-existing, soft iron magnetic yoke circuit as a permeameter to boost the system, see image 1 below. TWI invites potential bidders to view the existing equipment in an open morning taking place on Thursday 26th September 2019 at 10am at our Abington laboratories near Cambridge.
If you would like to attend please send full attendee names no later than 2pm on Wednesday 25th September 2019 through the In-tend correspondence facility.
You will also be required to bring photographic ID on the day of the site visit.
