Description of the goods or services required
In order to support the needs of researchers in the University provision of High Performance Computing (HPC) is necessary. It will be physically based in our St Asaph site but will need to be accessible to all staff to use. The University has an existing network connecting the sites.
The University has HPC hardware which was sited in St Asaph as part of the HPC Wales project which has now finished. The title of the hardware has been formally transferred to the University, but there is no software as this was licenced to HPC Wales.
The University has a requirement to procure a contract for High Performance Computing (HPC) Installation Services & On-going Support.
The summary of the scope of this contract will be follows:
To restore the High Performance Computing facility to use and make it accessible through the network to all Wrexham Glyndwr University sites. In addition, it should be accessible to remote users (e.g. from home)
The primary aim of the project is to restore and operating system to the head nodes (2) and compute nodes (13) to yield a useable HPC service requiring little support. A version of Linux is required on the compute nodes and this should be compatible with the software used in the University (viz, ANSYS, Matlab)
Installation of suitable Linux-based systems to provide a stable HPC resource
Installation of the software packages used in the University
Training on the system and on installation of vendor packages to enable day to day operation of the system by the University
Ongoing annual support & maintenance for the system for up to 5 years. (minimum 3 years term with an option to price for additional two years)
