Trail Kilkenny are seeking tenders from suitably qualified parties for the delivery of a Feasibility Study, Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Design with estimated costs for a walking route in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny. The 5.2km walk will follow a route from the Discovery Park, to the Yellow Road where it will access the Golf Course. Following through a section of virgin wooded scrub into more formal Coillte mixed woodland. Within the woodland, set back off the proposed trail, there are number of waterfalls that require improvements to access and safety as they will be key features on the walk. The route then enters private land along the River Dinen and back onto the golf course where a 300m boardwalk will be required to separate walkers from golf players. Carrying along the river you meet a derelict pedestrian bridge that once served as a crossing point when the Demesne was operational.
Most initial consultations have been completed with landowners and verbal provisional permissive access agreed.
The report will incorporate a full analysis of the route option, appropriate specifications of trail surfaces and infrastructure and associated estimated costs, building works and estimated financial budgets- including a specification for a Boardwalk section along the River Dinen and the reinstatement of pedestrian bridge.
